Petra Selin

My name is Petra Selin Tuzun and this self-entitled project is all about me. Throughout my time at VCU, I felt as though I couldn't see myself through my work and it made me pretty upset. My passion for art as a whole started to dwindle. So I thought what better a time than now to reignite that old flame.

I wanted to get to know myself again, so I started painting, writing, and looking through old photographs. Putting them all in one place really put my entire life, both inside of the graphic design program and out, into perspective. I’ve ignored aspects of who I am for the sake of others, I’ve downplayed many of my accomplishments, and I underestimated my abilities time and time again.

To hell with all of that. With some oil paint and early on-set carpal tunnel i got myself together. I hope you can relate to me in some way. I also hope that you got to know me a little better.

An image of an oil painting. On a white background in the bottom right is a portion of a self portrait: one eye, brown hair, and an ear with two hoop earrings can be seen. The remainder of the image is filled with graphic red flowers that have blue stems. In the bottom left is a signature that reads “Petra Selin”
Handwritten signature from Petra Tuzun in black.
