The Craftsman’s Wife is an investigation into the lost stories of women in art history, with an emphasis on those women whose work was undermined by the work of fellow male partners and creative counterparts. My main goal in pursuing this topic is to garner interest in and an awareness of the legacies and work of women who art history has totally neglected. As to how this affects people alive presently, the issue of representation of course comes up. Digging deeper into that, the lack of female artists in the spotlight of art history perpetuates a culture of minimizing the work of female artists. I hope by sharing these artists who were essentially erased from popular culture we can continue to dissect the treatment and attitudes towards women in the arts, open people's eyes to their rich histories, and help us all relish in our validity as artists and people.
