Revive is a series of handmade collages that reflect and abstract the messages of handwritten notes scrawled inside the covers of used books. Interested in how reusing existing materials and current possessions can create a more sustainable art practice, Ehmcke creates a series of collages using only found materials or materials at hand. She takes inspiration from influential collagist Hannah Hoch and painter Lee Krasner, who reused pieces of her paintings to transform previous work into collages. This series centers around the lost-but-now-found notes written inside books that were gifted to loved ones by previous owners. The handwritten notes embody the process of recycling and reviving past materials and ideas. You are invited to assemble and share your own found-image collages on Ehmcke’s interactive collage website. Share them on Instagram with #vcugdes_seniorshow.
The bottom line is:
Art and inspiration are unpredictable... so is the future.
